Why nobody cares about the Netanyahu video

by Dan on July 25, 2010

If you haven’t seen the video, take a minute and watch it before reading the rest of this post.

The story is simple – Benjamin Netanyahu was caught, on camera, bragging about how easy it was to manipulate the US, how our support for Israel was absurdly high, and how he personally killed the Oslo peace process by insisting on a certain stipulation during the Wye Memorandum. Gideon Levy and Jonathan Cook, two of the region’s most consistent and admirable journalists, reacted with immediate outrage in Haaretz and The National.

But that was it. The Huffington Post and several significant liberal blogs picked up on the story – but nobody really seems to care. Why? Here you have the current Prime Minister of Israel discussing his views of the peace process and the American-Israeli relationship in very controversial terms…and nobody cares. Why?

The answer is simple, really – we already knew all this.
